Bamdej Wetland of Ahvaz
Wetlands provide beautiful landscapes of nature and simultaneously are home to several rare species.

Bamdezh Wetland is one of the wetlands of Khuzestan Province that is located in 40 kilometers northwest of Ahwaz near the villages of Mazraa, Bamdezh, Sadaat Tawahir, Seyed Jasim and also Shawar Dam, Tavana Channel and Ahwaz-Andimeshk Railway. This wetland (Hur) is of an area of 4000 acres and its water is provided by Shawar River. Moreover, high level of underground waters, heaviness of the texture of soil, lowness of region, raining and winter deluge currents and returning waters from farmlands, are among the most significant factors of this wetland. Finally, the water that comes out of this wetland passes through a branch called Kharwar and after leaving the Tavana Channel pours into Dez River. This wetland has a low level from early April to the middle November, because the input water is decreased due to the closure of hatches and filling Shavar Dam. The farming wastewater entering the wetland is conducted outside by means of Kharvar drain pipe and its marginal parts are dried.

Regional vegetation is of two spring and fall appearances. One year old plants and most plants with further age grow at spring. Thus, from March to May, this wetland turns to a green pasture. The salt-tolerant plants (halophytes) of wetland mostly grow in fall. In Bamdezh Wetland, 134 different species of plants grow including Khar Shotor-e Khazari, Khar Shotor-e Irani, Turanjabin, Shirin Bayan, Khar Panbeh, Shah Tareh, Gol Gavzaban, Puneh, Konar, Taj-e Khurus, Ney and Gageleh.
