Washington, SAEDNEWS, Oct. 28: The two contenders for the US presidency are feeling the pressure of time, with just one week to go until election day. They've headed off on paths they hope will lead them to the White House. Joe Biden has taken a route that has been bumpy for Democrats. President Donald Trump has taken a well-traveled road, visiting states he won four years ago. Trump returned to Michigan, one of several battleground states he needs to win.
He framed the election as a balance between what he would do for the economy and how his opponent would manage the pandemic. Trump said, "It's a choice between a Trump boom or a Biden lockdown. But you're already locked down." Biden is trying to flip states Trump took in the last election. He headed to Georgia, which hasn't been won by a Democrat since 1992.
Biden addressed the divisions in the country by posing a question. He asked, "Has the heart of this nation turned to stone? I don't think so. I refuse to believe it. I know this country. I know our people, and I know we can unite and heal this nation." More than 67 million Americans have already cast their ballots.
That's almost half the total number of votes that were cast four years ago. Aggregated polls from RealClearPolitics suggest Biden leads nationwide by more than 7 percentage points (Source: NHK).
