European Union, SAEDNEWS, Nov. 19: "It will not be easy to return to Iran's nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), after US President Donald Trump leaves the White House, as there may be concerns that the US will pull out again," Federica Mogherini, told the Atlantic Council think tank on Wednesday. Asking Biden to return to talks with Iran immediately, the former EU diplomat claimed that the JCPOA was the only way to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power.
"The last four years have been difficult for Americans and Europeans who have seen that the US government trampled on its own core values," She told CNN last Monday. Mogherini expressed confidence that a return to these values and to multilateralism and international mechanisms, in general, would be the first priority of the Biden administration.
"Under the Trump administration, we saw a zero-sum game, and it was clear that in Trump's view, you have to play to win, but this was not and has never been the right approach for Europe," The former EU foreign policy chief said. "I hope that with the victory of Biden, a government will come to power in the United States that will return to a win-win approach," She said.
Incumbent President Donald Trump unilaterally terminated the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 in 2018 and tried to force Iran to reach a broader agreement, which includes its missile program, with severe sanctions, but failed.
