SAEDNEWS: The action of some Western states in drafting and approving an anti-Iran resolution on the issue of human rights “is a clear example of the double standard and the use of human rights as a tool for illegitimate political purposes”, Kana’ani said on Wednesday, adding the move is nothing but a big political and moral scandal for West amid the Gaza war.
The spokesperson stressed that countries that have a long history of systematically violating human rights all over are not in a position to give human rights recommendations to the government and people of Iran, while reiterating that the resolution lacks any legitimacy or validity.
A resolution dubbed “Situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran” was adopted in the third committee of the UNGA on Tuesday, condemning what it claimed as “rights abuses against women” in the country. It was adopted by 80 votes in favor, 29 against, and 65 abstentions.
Tehran blasts the blatant violations of human rights in the US and Europe, stressing that for the West, human rights is merely a tool for exerting political pressure on independent states to advance their foreign policy objectives. Iranian officials mock the Wests’ claim over supporting Iranian women and girls amid harsh sanctions which have disrupted the ordinary lives of the people, and stress the West does not have the authority to be the flag-bearer in this field.
Iran has numerously urged the international organizations to condemn police brutality against women in the United States and European states, instead of expressing concern over human rights in other countries.
Kana’ani also stated the human rights resolution was proposed by some Western countries while these states are turning a blind eye to the Israeli war crimes and genocide in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, and some of them are fully supporting the regime which has killed almost 20,000 people in the besieged enclave in more than two months.
“This regime is a criminal, and even more ridiculous is that it is also one of the co-founders of the resolution against Iran,” the diplomat continued, emphasizing that the Israeli collusion devalues the concept of human rights.
