Tehran, SAEDNEWS: The organization has issued a statement condemning the fake and abominable content of the so-called movie of "Holy Spider," stating that the cultural arena in the world has always been a platform for commemorating nations and paying tribute to values of human societies, which have their roots in beliefs of people and states, and international cinematic events usually reflect glorious products of different countries, but certain influential powers have started interfering in these events in order to utilize some seminars as tools of war to confront freedom-seeking nations, so they try to dictate their political agenda on art, which causes erosion of artistic values and professional aspect of such events.
This time in the 75th Cannes Film Festival, which is organized by the French Government, has turned into a platform to display a movie that is not only politically motivated but also seems to be a weak product made by an expatriate Iranian to insult beliefs and values of millions of Muslims, including Shia Muslims, the statement stipulated.
The insulting movie portrayed false image of Iranian and Islamic teachings in a bid to follow up the path of Salman Rushdie and people like him who desecrated the Holy Quran and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), it added.
"Holy Spider" attempted to showcase a distorted image of Iranian society and dishonor millions of Shia's beliefs, but the Cannes Film Festival's decision to appreciate the weak work is being considered by many critics and international experts as a political move, the statement mentioned.
France and the Cannes Film Festival are expected to feel responsible for hurting feelings of millions of Shia Muslims around the globe and remove the anti-culture stain off its professional record, it noted.
The "Holy Spider," produced by Iranian-Swedish filmmaker Ali Abbasi, was displayed at the 75th Cannes Film Festival on Saturday and Zahra Amir-Ebrahimi won best actress at Cannes.
The movie is a joint product of France, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark, which was shot in Jordan, to display the story of a serial killer in Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan Province, Iran.
The 75th Cannes Film Festival was held May 17-28.
