Tehran, SAEDNEWS: Asked about the reports of Taliban’s conquest of Panjshir Valley in Afghanistan, Khatibzadeh said at a press conference on Monday that the news of military clashes in Panjshir are “extremely worrying”.
He also condemned yesterday’s attacks on Panjshir in the strongest terms and expressed regret at the martyrdom of Afghan leaders.
Condemning foreign interference in the internal affairs of Afghanistan, the Iranian spokesman added, “Everybody should know that the history of Afghanistan has proved that foreign meddling will result in nothing but failure.”
Khatibzadeh also urged that the conflict in Panjshir should be settled politically and through negotiations. “Nobody should allow this path to end with fratricide.”
The Iranian diplomat called on the Taliban to honor their commitments.
He said Iran has received reports about the imposition of a blockade on Panjshir, warning that cutting off power and starving out people in Panjshir run counter to the international law.
“Panjshir (crisis) has a political solution. Its blockade is by no means acceptable in terms of the international and humanitarian law,” he stated.
Heavy fighting continues between the Taliban and resistance forces in Panjshir Valley as the armed group tried to seize the last holdout province.
Resistance fighters said on Sunday that they captured hundreds of Taliban troops as well as their equipment and vehicles.
The Taliban said its forces had fought their way into the provincial capital of Panjshir after securing the surrounding districts.
Sources have confirmed that National Resistance Front (NRF) spokesman Mohammad Fahim Dashty, has been killed in the fighting in his native Panjshir province (Source: Tasnim).
