Iran reacts to news of Iran's non-permanent membership in the Security Council
Spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Saeed Khatibzadeh reacted to reports about the inaccuracy of certain news about Iran’s candidacy for non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Regarding the issue, Khatibzadeh said when this ambiguity was raised for the first time, we answered that the original news of the candidacy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is incorrect, but due to the news being raised again, we emphasize that the Islamic Republic of Iran has not applied for a non-permanent membership in the UN security council and the UAE has been the only candidate from the Asian group.

Khatibzadeh went on to stress Iran's support for the UAE as a non-permanent members of the Security Council and has voted for it.

He said the subject has been also announced in a letter by the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to his UAE counterpart (Source: IRNA).
