Iran Slams UN Special Rapporteur's Claims of Ethnic Groups in Iran
Deputy Judiciary Chief and Head of the Iranian Judiciary's High Council for Human Rights Ali Baqeri Kani strongly censured the UN Special Rapporteur’s attempts to arouse sentiments of ethnic groups in Iran, stressing that ethnicities comprise the Iranian nation.

Tehran, SAEDNEWS: “Iranian society is a multi-ethnic society with ancient cultural and religious fusion, and the application of the title of minority to different ethnic groups, each of which is part of the population of this vast country, is inconsistent with this background,” Baqeri Kani wrote in reaction to the UN Special Rapporteur’s report on human rights situation in Iran.

He added, “It is not in compliance with 'justice' to call on the 'justice' system of the country to discriminate in favor of a criminal who has had a clear role in killing of several innocent people under the cover of defending human rights and the forged title of 'ethnic and religious minorities'.”

The official stressed that as a result of the criminal acts “several households were left without their bread winners (of which the victims themselves were members of the same ethnic group), merely because of his affiliation to a particular ethnicity or religion, and does not observe "justice" in issuing the sentence.”

In relevant remarks in late February, Baqeri Kani dismissed UN High Commissioner on Human Rights Michelle Bachelet’s allegations on discrimination against Iranian ethnic groups, reiterating that ethnic groups are not minorities but the entire Iran and enjoy equal rights of citizenship.

Baqeri Kani wrote on his twitter account, "Ms. Commissioner; Iranian ethnic groups are not 'minority', they are 'the whole Iran'."

"Had politics not prevented you to travel to Iran and you were allowed to see Iran's realities closely, you would have noticed how Lors, Kurds, Turks, Turkmens, Arabs, Balouchis, Fars and other people shout at foreigners, 'We are Iranians'," he added.
