Iran’s Envoy: Regional Resistance Groups Act Independently
SAEDNEWS: Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani once again stressed that the resistance groups in West Asia are not directed by Tehran and do not take orders from Tehran, adding that they have legitimate rights to end the illegal US presence in Iraq and Syria, stop the killings in Gaza.

SAEDNEWS: Addressing a United Nations Security Council meeting on the threat to international peace on Monday, the ambassador touched on anti-Israeli and anti-US operations by various resistance groups across the Western Asia region.

“All of the resistance groups in the region are independent and their decisions and actions are motivated by their legitimate rights under international law, which include ending the illegal presence of the US in their territories, stopping the genocide in Gaza, and ending the occupation of the Palestinian territories,” he said.

“Therefore, any attempt to attribute these actions to Iran or its Armed Forces is misleading, baseless, and unacceptable,” Iravani added.

“It is evident to everyone that the root causes of the crises in the region are occupation, aggression, and the continued genocide and horrific atrocities [that are being] committed by the Israeli regime and fully supported by the US against innocent Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank,” the envoy stressed.

Iravani stated Iran believes that “the only solution to end the conflict in the region and prevent the spillover of the war is … to force Israel to stop the genocide in Gaza, to establish an immediate ceasefire [there], to end the presence of US forces in Iraq and Syria, and to exert pressure to end the occupation of Palestinian territories by the Israeli regime”.

Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza in early October, there have been around 160 attacks on US troops in Iraq and Syria. Most of those have been claimed by regional resistance groups.

Tehran has made no secret of its backing for the resistance movements in West Asia, but stresses that they make their own decisions, and they are acting independently and not taking orders from Iran.

In response to a drone attack that killed three US service members and wounded scores more in Jordan last weekend, the US struck 85 targets in Iraq and Syria on Friday, killing dozens of civilians in the war-ravaged countries.

Over the past several weeks, Washington and London have also conducted scores of aerial assaults against various parts of Yemen in response to the country's missile and drone strikes on vessels owned by Israel or heading to ports in the occupied territories in support of Gaza.

Moreover, the United States has been providing Israel with unconditional military and political support in its onslaught against Gaza, arming Tel Aviv with more than 10,000 tons of military hardware. The US has also torpedoed the prospect of cessation of the Israeli aggression by stonewalling ratification of all United Nations Security Council resolutions that have been calling for a permanent ceasefire in the Israeli assault.

Iranian officials say the United States is waging a war on Palestinians in the besieged enclave through Israel, and stress if Washington’s political and military aid to Zionists is cut off, the regime won’t be able to proceed its military campaign against the blockaded territory.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Iravani denounced the US military action in Iraq and Syria as “illegitimate”, “illegal”, “unjustified”, “blatantly violates the basic norms and principles of international law” and the UN Charter.

“It is a flagrant breach of Iraq's and Syria's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and political independence,” he stressed.

The Iranian diplomat asserted that “the United States continues to occupy Syrian territory, loot Syrian property and resources, and support separatists and terrorist groups” in the country while “people in Syria are experiencing economic hardship and a humanitarian crisis as a result of the United States' hostile and harmful actions”.

He added that following its unlawful military intervention in Iraq in 2003, “the US and the so-called coalition ignored Iraqis' opinions and aspirations and continued [their] illegal activities and presence under the guise of fighting terrorism”.

“All these measures violate international law, the UN Charter, and related Security Council resolutions,” Iravani continued.

He also strongly condemned “the joint military actions of the United States and the United Kingdom against Yemen, which constitute an obvious violation of the UN Charter and international law” (SOURCE: FARS).
