Once Karoon was one of the greatest and richest rivers of Iran and is considered to be one of the popular places of our country. But today this river is exposed to the danger of water shortage and drought. Karoon River is 950 kilometers long and the longest river in Iran the main origin of which is located in Zardkooh Bakhtiari in Chahar Mahal va Bakhtiari Province. Karoon is also the vital source of fresh water of Ahwaz and it has the potentiality to change into a very affluent recreation center and be the host of internal and foreign tourists. This river was included in the list of Iran’s Natural Heritage on 2011 February 9.
