Tehran, SAEDNEWS: “At present, Iran and Russia are running active cooperation. Relations in the political, commercial, economic, scientific, technical, cultural, human resources, and other fields are being strengthened. The implementation of large infrastructure projects in Iran, including construction and operation of Bushehr nuclear power plant is underway. Cooperation in the field of health and campaign against the spread of the coronavirus is also being developed,” Lavrov said in an interview with Persian-language Iran newspaper on Tuesday.
“Shipments of Russian Sputnik-V vaccine will be sent to Iran and its production line is planned to launch in the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he added.
Lavrov noted that Moscow and Tehran will work closely together for the full implementation of the nuclear deal, and added, “We are successfully coordinating our efforts to resolve the Syrian issue within the framework of Astana process, which has proven its success, and we are constantly discussing the situation in the Middle-East and the Near East.”
He described cooperation between Russia and Iran as beneficial to regional stability, saying that sustainable growth of economic and trade cooperation largely depends on the developed logistical relations.
“The North-South International Transport Corridor is a positive example of multilateral cooperation. This project is a key infrastructural project in the region that will help increase mutually beneficial cooperation among different governments,” the Russian top diplomat said.
Iran took delivery of the fourth batch of the Russian COVID-19 vaccine “Sputnik-V” amid its nation-wide combat against the coronavirus late in March.
Iran took delivery of the first batch of Sputnik-V vaccines from Russia on February 4.
Upon the order by President Hassan Rouhani, Iran began vaccination against COVID-19 with a Russian-developed vaccine – Sputnik V on February 9.
The son of Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki was the first Iranian person to receive the vaccine.
Last month, Head of the Iranian Health Ministry’s Public Relations Office Kianoush Jahanpour announced that the country will start joint production of the Russia-made Sputnik V vaccine by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20).
“The joint production of Sputnik V vaccine will start by the end of the year in an Iranian company and the first vaccines will be available in the market 45 days to 2 months later and 36 to 40 million doses of Sputnik V vaccine will be produced and distributed in a year,” Jahanpour said (Source: Fars News).
