Moscow, SAEDNEWS: Speaking about the steps to settle the current tense situation, the Kremlin spokesman noted that "there was a way out". "NATO needs to stop provocations near our borders and halt advancing its political and military infrastructure towards our borders," Peskov noted.
The spokesman also mentioned that "NATO definitely needs to stop pumping modern arms into Ukraine, thereby inspiring it to insane actions".
Attempts to solve Ukrainian crisis by force will trigger serious consequences, according to the Kremlin.
Peskov has lambasted the ramping up of hysterics in the West regarding purported Russian plans to invade Ukraine and has warned about possible foreign provocations related to these claims.
"This hysteria is being whipped up artificially. Those who bring their armed forces overseas now accuse us of some 'unusual military activity' on our own territory," Peskov said referring to the US.
The spokesman further condemned the US and NATO for ramping up provocative activities on Russia's borders by moving their military infrastructure, as well as armed forces closer.
Peskov cautioned NATO against pumping Ukraine with modern weaponry, noting that by doing so these countries inspire Ukraine to reckless behaviour and attempts to resolve their issues by force.
"Ukraine is most likely seeking to make another attempt at resolving its own problem through military means; create another disaster for themselves and for everyone in Europe. This is what Ukraine is striving for. And it is trying to achieve this, most likely, under the cover of those very NATO exercises [near Russia's borders], NATO ships in the Black Sea - US, British soldiers in the region, of which there are more and more," he added.
The Kremlin made its warnings in the wake of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's statements that Washington expressed concern about alleged Russian military activity near the country's border with Ukraine. According to Blinken, Washington feared that Moscow might invade its neighbour, even though the Kremlin has repeatedly ruled out doing so, and that the White House had shared its concerns with European allies.
At the same time, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley stated last week that the Pentagon sees nothing that would suggest Russian troops are preparing to invade Ukraine in the coming days. His comments came amid several US media outlets reporting that America warned the EU of this alleged possibility and proposed working out a joint response – both economic and military.
Moscow, in turn, slammed the claims that it intends to invade Ukraine soon as a fake news campaign against Russia. The Kremlin dismissed the reports of a Russian military build-up along the border with Ukraine and recalled that similar allegations of invasion proved to be wrong in the past as well (Source: Farsnews).
