Official says Iran’s SCO membership proves US threats futility
Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad Hosseini said that Iran’s permanent membership in Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) indicated that US threats were no longer effective and this was the end of unilateralism.

Tehran, SAEDNEWS: In a live TV program on Saturday night, Hosseini said that the SCO summit in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, was of great importance, as China, a main member of the organization, is the second largest economy in the world and Iran has recently signed a 25-year strategic agreement with the country.

He also pointed to other influential members in the SCO, including Russia that is under Western sanction like Iran, India, and other countries, such as Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan

The vice president for parliamentary affairs opined that some politicians would say that Iran’s permanent membership in the SCO wouldn’t be realized until US sanctions were removed and Iran accepted FATF, but it turned out that this could be achieved by high endeavor and good interaction.

The SCO is a powerful organization, with whose member states Iran may have good cooperation in different areas; and it might have a strategic agreement with other countries like what was signed with China, the official went on to say.

Hosseini said that the West could be upset with Iran’s membership in the regional organization and the Eastern powers’ reception of Iran, but this is a reality that they have to accept (Source: IRNA).
