Spokesman: US Seizure of Iranian Websites Violates Freedom of Expression
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh blasted the US for the seizure of the websites of a series of Iranian and regional television networks, stressing that the measure is a blatant violation of human rights.

Tehran, SAEDNEWS: Khatibzadeh described the move as a "systematic attempt by the US to undermine global freedom of expression and silence independent voices in the media”.

He called continued double standards by the US as shameful, saying, "The current US administration has followed exactly the path of the previous US government, which will yield no results but a double defeat for Washington."

“The Islamic Republic of Iran rejects this illegal and bullying measure and will pursue the issue through legal channels,” Khatibzadeh said.

On Tuesday, the US seized the websites of Press TV and al-Alam, Iran’s English-language and Arabic-language newscasters, as well as al-Masirah TV of Yemen.

Other web domains, including Palestine al-Youm, a Palestinian-directed broadcaster, Karbala TV – the official television of the Imam Hussein (PBUH) shrine in the holy Iraqi city of Karbala, Iraqi Afaq TV, Asia TV and al-Naeem TV satellite television channels, as well as Nabaa TV which reports the latest stories about Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf countries, were also seized.

Bahrain’s LuaLua TV, a channel run by opposition groups with offices in London and Beirut, was also closed

Press TV website was back online within hours with the new .ir domain address. Al-Alam TV also quickly announced that its website will be available on .ir domain.

Al-Masirah TV established a new website, using its name but swapping the .net domain for .com.

Last year, the .com domains of a dozen other Iranian media outlets, including Fars News Agency and Iran's state-run Iran Daily, were seized and blocked permanently by the American media service providing companies, alleging that the US sanctions ban providing service to Iranian entities (Source: Fars News).
