Tehran, SAEDNEWS: In a meeting held on Monday morning for receiving the credential of the new Swiss Ambassador to Tehran Christian Dussey, Ebrahim Raisi said that the relations between the two countries have always been friendly, adding: "Switzerland has always played a positive role in maintaining and promoting peace, and it is expected to be able to maintain its independent role in the new era against US unilateralist policies."
Raisi received the credentials of the new ambassadors of Switzerland, Finland, Belgium, Kyrgyzstan, Cyprus and Azerbaijan Republic.
The new Swiss ambassador to Tehran also said in the meeting that Iran is a country with an ancient and brilliant civilization, adding: "Iran and Switzerland have had good relations in the political, cultural, economic and scientific fields for more than a hundred years."
He expressed hope that the conditions would be set for the activities of Swiss companies and economic activists in Iran.
Switzerland has had a consulate in Tehran since 1919, which was raised to the status of the embassy in 1936.
In the last few decades, especially after the 1979 revolution in Iran, Iran's relations with the Swiss Confederation have been friendly and based on mutual respect.
In the absence of diplomatic or consular relations of the United States of America with the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Swiss government, acting through its Embassy in Tehran, serves as the Protecting Power of the USA in Iran since 21 May 1980. The Swiss Embassy's Foreign Interests Section provides consular services to US citizens living in or traveling to Iran.
It also represents the interests of Saudi Arabia in Tehran.
Switzerland has also represented Iran in Canada, Israel, and Saudi Arabia (Source: IRANPRESS).
