Tehran decries European Union’s human rights resolution, says it is detached from reality
SAEDNEWS: Tehran on Friday dismissed the European Parliament’s resolution on Iran’s human rights record as a sign of “confusion” over the realities in Iran and “false humanitarian slogans”.

SAEDNEWS: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said the resolution was a reflection of certain European powers’ ignorance about Iran’s strength and resistance to arrogance. The interventionist resolution that the European Parliament voted on Thursday is based on the “destructive attitude that a series of European currents have adopted towards the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Kanaani said in a statement.

Denouncing the resolution, the spokesman said, “The European Parliament’s interfering resolution indicates a number of the European parties’ confusion over the reality of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s might coupled with anti-arrogance.”

Kanaani also slammed certain European countries for allying with terrorist groups against the Iranian nation over the past four decades, saying their “theatrical measures and false humanitarian slogans” will never erase their dark history of sponsoring criminals and killers of Iranians.

He went on to add, “While the public opinion across the world, as in the European countries, is saddened, traumatized and infuriated by the continuation of the most ruthless anti-human crimes in Gaza committed by the apartheid and child-killing Israeli regime and asks the officials of their respective countries to stop the genocide and war crimes against the defenseless and oppressed people of Gaza by raising their voices in streets in various cities across that continent (Europe), the European Parliament that claims to be the symbol of democracy and the so-called human rights and humanitarian values has unfortunately shut its eyes to the most unprecedented and barbaric collective punishment and heinous massacre of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinian citizens, 70 percent of whom are women and children. However, such (European) double standard would not be hidden from the eyes and judgment of the world’s free thinkers and awakened conscience.”

Finally, Kanaani urged those who initiate and draft such “worthless anti-Iran resolutions” to change their ways and reverse their failed policies toward the Iranian government and nation, and adopt a policy of constructive interaction and cooperation based on mutual respect and interests.

The European Parliament approved a resolution on Thursday, denouncing what it called the worsening of the country’s human rights situation.

The resolution text was approved with 516 votes in favor, 4 votes against, and 27 abstentions.

“Gaza ceasefire very first step toward Palestinian triumph”

In a statement issued Thursday evening, Kanaani also welcomed the four-day cease-fire in Gaza, calling it the first step toward putting an end to the “usurping and child-killing Zionist regime’s war crimes against Palestinian citizens, women, and children.”

The spokesperson described the truce as the consequence of almost 45 days of unfathomable struggle by the Palestinian people and the historical tenacity of the resistance troops and said it was the first step toward triumph for Palestine.

He then stated that Iran will continue to make efforts, propose initiatives, and hold diplomatic consultations with various regional and international parties to support the oppressed people of Palestine, as well as collaborate with friendly and like-minded countries to take immediate measures to stabilize and extend the ceasefire, stop the Zionist regime’s massacre machine, and provide urgent relief aid to the people of Gaza.

“The Palestinian nation proved that it will decide its own fate and the fate of its homeland either in the battlefield or at the political arena, and will show an appropriate and determining response to any plot or ill-advised, aggressive and short-sighted measure by the usurping Zionist regime and its notorious sponsors,” Kanaani added.

The four-day truce between the Israeli regime and Hamas came into effect on Friday morning following protracted discussions and a minimum of twenty-four hours of delay.

In exchange for the release of Palestinian women and children imprisoned in Israeli jails, Israeli prisoners held hostage in Gaza will be freed.

Prior to the combat halt, the Zionist regime stepped up its attacks, launching an airstrike on a UN school on Thursday that left at least 27 people killed (SOURCE: TEHRANTIMES).
